The challenges
A lack of educational and employment opportunities means that Madagascar is now, and will continue to be, one of the countries with the highest poverty rates.
Our solutions
Beneficiaries
Young people between the ages of 13 and 23, who are generally the first of their extremely poor family or (close) relatives to be able to complete (initial) education.
Effectiveness
A judge instead of a rice farmer - an accountant instead of a bush cab driver: By enabling (initial) education, we fundamentally change the lives of our beneficiaries and their environment in just three to a maximum of nine years. Fianarana starts where our help for self-help is most effective, namely when the previously public and almost free education ends after graduation from the regional high school. Building new schools and supporting the education of children is less meaningful and effective in Fihaonana. This project year produces 18 high school graduates and 21 bachelor students. And this with a 46% share of female beneficiaries.
Schedule
Project reserves
20% of the budgeted training and living expenses
Funding
Donations from foundations and private individuals
Budget
CHF 160'000 for 2022/23 (of which CHF 33'658.35 still open)
Destination
All 18 high school graduates and 21 bachelor's students successfully complete their (initial) education by 2025, thereby gaining equal opportunities for a life free of poverty.
Controls
Our permanent on-site presence, internal financial control systems and annual audit (of Lufida Revisions AG)
Our 39 beneficiaries
CHF 160,000. This is how much is needed for our project in the 2022/23 training year.
Due to the ongoing economic crisis and high inflation in Madagascar, we have calculated the budget generously. We assume that the actual costs will be lower. Surpluses in the current project round 2022/23 will be directly credited to the following year 2023/24.
One year of training costs CHF 2,000 per person, plus our project work, fundraising and administration, the total is CHF 2,800. The figures below serve as a guideline or maximum values. In order to avoid overestimating the amount of support, the amount of support is calculated individually. For example, many of our students have low travel and, depending on the case, housing costs, as they can live close to their educational institution in cooperation with us and their families.
